Empire's Artistic Roller Skating Team

I have started a new project with Empire's Artistic Roller Skating Team. The team consists of members ranging from ages five to sixty-two. I was reminded that this is not a relatively new sport but rather something passed down from generations. The team has three national champions in different age classes and one coach, Mark Reagan, who is coming back after a twenty year break.

Going 80

I put together a quick multimedia piece of my drive between Columbia and Minneapolis for fun. The land is so flat and empty. The isolation is almost enchanting. Photos taken going approximately 80mph.

Lily Ganz Senior Portraits

I took Lily's senior portraits yesterday. Minnesota winter hits fast so faking fall in these was definitely a challenge. Check out the results. I also posted some outtakes on Flickr.

Missouri Loves Company

The Missouri Loves Company ultimate frisbee tournament brought together 56 teams from all over the country. I enjoyed hopping from field to field running into old friends and watching some talented players.

Columbia's Benjamin Gross lays out at the Missouri Loves Company tournament in the match against the University of Iowa on Sunday at Cosmopolitan Recreation Area. Missouri was undefeated the first day of the tournament but took 15th place overall after losing to Iowa and Kansas.

Wale

Hip Hop artist Wale performs on November 12 in Jesse Auditorium. The concert featured tracks off his newest album Attention Deficit. Wale requested the lights be turned up, saw the size of the crowd, and asked "Where the after party at?" The concert was high energy with a lot of audience involvement dancing in the pit and on stage.

Crew members Tori House, Alex Wendell, and Sydney Ferleger sit backstage during the dress rehearsal for Arcadia.

Senior Paige Sommerer performs in the rehearsal for "Arcadia" on Monday night in Rhynsburger Theatre. Sommerer plays Lady Croom, an aristocrat, in the play, which jumps back and forth from the early 1800s to present day.

Actors run through lines in the hallway leading to the backstage of Arcadia.

Fall Is Here

Just a few shots of my roommates enjoying the fall weather. Missouri has an extension of the beautiful weather compared to the Minnesota chill that sneaks up on you by November 1st.

Camera and Crisp

I don't think i've ever been so excited to see a UPS man. My Canon 5D Mark ii was delivered today and I could not contain my excitement. I'm getting back in the swing of things. Fall has always been my favorite season, and apple crisp is the prefect way to celebrate. I made the dessert with honeycrisp apples. They are sweet, tart, and were invented by the University of Minnesota. What's not to love?

Roommates

Moving into your first apartment brings a few changes. Throughout this summer we have experienced almost every aspect of functional failure within this building. Our gas, internet, and air conditioning has gone out us not to mention our chairs rolling downhill due to a foundation slant. We have hosted up to eight guests at a time and hosted one uninvited visitor aka a wild bird that snuck its way into our living room. Luckily, each of us contributes something unique to turn this hundred year old building into a home. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Road Tripping

I am liking the looks of the open road these days. It's nice to just get on the highway and drive through little towns with good friends. Heres a summary of the ride from Springfield, MO.

A Visit to the Hopkins High School Photo Room

I have not worked with film in a while but heres the result of half a roll taken at HHS. Many of my favorite high school experiences can be traced back to the photo room. My interest in photography started here and the free independent environment was the best place for it to grow.

Of Montreal

Of Montreal overtook 9th street as a part of Columbia's Summerfest. The band was the first of the free concert series and certainly started it off right. The indie psychedelic pop/rock band is led by Kevin Barnes who brought energy to the stage supported by his crew of live theatresque actors that expressed a story of sexual liberation.

Second City

The Second City performs on their 50th Anniversary tour  Sunday night in the Missouri Theatre. The improv group's alumni include comedic legends Mike Meyers, John Belushi, and Steven Colbert. These guys had me laughing until my abs hurt. My favorite sketch was their improvised musical about a vegetable photographer evicted from his treehouse studio apartment.

Brother Ali

I was ecstatic when I heard Brother Ali was coming to Columbia. The show last night was small but intimate. Ali told the crowd he didn't want a performance that separated him from his audience but a party that brought US all together. His set list included classics like Truth Is, and Uncle Sam Goddamn but he also went off his 2009 album US including Tightrope and Fresh Air. It was definitely a different experience than seeing him in Minneapolis where he draws a crowd packed to the brim but nonetheless still an incredible show. I had the privilege of chatting with him after the show thanking him for coming out to Columbia and talking about Minnesota. He was very genuine and made an effort to connect with the audience during the show and after.
